Resumo: The aim of this study is to understand physical education within the public and social policies included in the new LDBEN and in National Curricular Parameters, specially for senior high school teaching. It emphasizes the participation of BIRD as an ideological mentor for national education propositions with special regard to physical education. It also verifies if the social problems caused by the enforcement of LDBEN and supplementary laws that promoted the exclusion of part of the students from school physical education practice are resolved by the new propositions. What the preliminary survey data indicate is that the mechanism for excluding students from physical education practice has become subtler and social equity in school has been promoted.

Este ensaio aponta a participação do Bird como mentor ideológico para as propostas educacionais nacionais, privilegiando a ótica da Educação Física. Nesse sentido, busca verificar se as pendências sociais provocadas pela LDB e leis complementares anteriores que promoveram a exclusão de parte de estudantes da prática de educação física escolar são resolvidas nas novas propostas.
