A cartography of the Ethics Committees of the Polytechnic Higher Education in Portugal (2023)

Resumo: | This is a descriptive study, of qualitative methodology, carried out in 2023, with the general objective of characterising the Ethics Committees of Polytechnic Higher Education in Portugal, as well as identifying the factors that hinder and facilitate the action of this Committees. A contextualization is carried out through a literature review and a description of the legislative framework. Document analysis was carried out and data were collected in interviews with the presidents of the Committees (a total of 16). It was found that the Ethics Committees began to be created in 2009 and that they currently exist in 75% of the institutions. The characterization findings are presented and discussed (number of members, external members, gender, age, qualifications, training in ethics/bioethics and experience in committee). Difficulties and facilitating factors were organized into thematic groups, whose synthesis is presented. It is considered that this is a necessary path of development at a global level, in Higher Education Institutions. Keywords: Ethics Committees. Higher Education. Polytechnic Education. |

Polytechnic Education.Se trata de un estudio descriptivo, de metodología cualitativa, realizado en 2023, teniendo como objetivo general caracterizar los Comités de Ética de la Enseñanza Superior Politécnica en Portugal, así como identificar los factores que dificultan y facilitan la actuación de los comités. Se procede a una contextualización a través de revisión de la literatura y descripción del marco legislativo. Se realizó análisis documental y se recogieron datos en entrevista a los presidentes de los comités (total de dieciséis). Se constató que los Comités de Ética comenzaron a ser creados a partir de 2009, y que actualmente existen en el 75% de las instituciones. Se presentan y discuten los resultados de la caracterización (número de miembros, miembros externos, sexo, edad, habilitaciones, formación en ética/bioética y experiencia en comité). Las dificultades y los factores facilitadores fueron organizados en grupos temáticos, cuya síntesis es presentada. Se considera que éste es un recorrido de desarrollo necesario a escala global en las Instituciones de Enseñanza Superior. Palabras clave: Comités de Ética. Enseñanza Superior. As dificuldades e os fatores facilitadores foram organizados em grupos temáticos, cuja síntese é apresentada.
