Storytelling and development of the adult storyteller

Resumo: This study seeks to understand how storytelling relates to the cognitive and affective development of adult storytellers. It is an exploratory qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews with 30 storytellers and a focus group. The data were analyzed considering the identification of categories according to the clinical method (DELVAL, 2002). The analysis allowed to establish the following categories: passion for reading, listening and telling stories; commitment to the activity; recognition of otherness; affectivity in the process; gratitude and personal transformation. There are indications of improvement in the cognitive and affective aspects of the storyteller. The participants observed a constant affective development from the practice, attributing to the storytelling the changes in the way they acted, behaved and saw the world, getting closer to the human “being” and all his/her fragilities. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa exploratoria a partir de entrevistas semi estructuradas con 30 narradores de historias y un grupo focal. Los datos fueron analizados considerando la identificación de categorías a partir del método clínico (DELVAL, 2002). El análisis permitió establecer las siguientes categorías: gusto por la lectura, por oír y contar historias; compromiso con la actividad; reconocimiento de la alteridad; afectividad en el proceso; gratitud y transformación personal. Hay indicios del desarrollo de aspectos cognitivos y afectivos del contador de historias. Los participantes observan un constante desarrollo afectivo a partir de la práctica, atribuyendo a la narración de historias los cambios en la forma de actuar, de comportarse y de ver el mundo, aproximándose más del “ser” humano y de sus fragilidades. Trata-se de pesquisa qualitativa exploratória a partir de entrevistas semiestruturadas com 30 contadores de histórias e de grupo focal. Os dados foram analisados considerando a identificação de categorias a partir do método clínico (DELVAL, 2002). A análise permitiu estabelecer as seguintes categorias: gosto pela leitura, por ouvir e contar histórias; comprometimento com a atividade; reconhecimento da alteridade; afetividade no processo; gratidão e transformação pessoal.  Há indícios do desenvolvimento de aspectos cognitivos e afetivos do contador de histórias. Os participantes observam um constante desenvolvimento afetivo a partir da prática, atribuindo à contação de histórias as mudanças na forma de agir, de comportar-se e de ver o mundo, aproximando-se mais do “ser” humano e das suas fragilidades.
