Schooling of children and adolescents from Pantanal (Brazil) in times of COVID-19

Resumo: This article analyses the ways in which educators of schools located in the riverside areas of Pantanal in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil) - Escolas das Águas (Schools in riverside areas) - organized themselves to maintain schooling in the period of the pandemic generated by COVID-19. For the development of this work, a qualitative perspective was adopted. Data collection took place with a survey and study of local documentation and open interviews, via WhatsApp application, between April and June 2020, with the school management and teachers from these schools. The analysis of the educational situation was carried out considering the social policies context, which allowed the perception that vulnerable populations may be more fragile in exceptional situations. Education, mediated by Escolas das Águas, was found to be one of the only links between local population and public power. Keywords: Escola das Águas. COVID-19. Pantanal - Mato Grosso do Sul.

Para el desarrollo de este trabajo fue adoptada una perspectiva cualitativa. La recogida de datos ocurrió con recopilación y estudio de documentación local y realización de entrevistas abiertas, mediante aplicación WhatsApp, entre abril y junio de 2020, con gestoras y docentes de estas escuelas. Los análisis de la situación educativa fueron elaboradas considerando el amplio contexto de las políticas sociales, lo que posibilitó la percepción de que las poblaciones vulnerables pueden ser más fragilizadas en situaciones de excepción. Se verificó la presencia de la educación, mediada por las Escuelas de las Aguas, como uno de los únicos enlaces entre la población local con el poder público. Palabras clave: Escuelas de las Aguas. Pantanal de Mato Grosso do Sul.Este artigo analisa as formas como educadores de escolas localizadas em regiões ribeirinhas do Pantanal Sul-mato-grossense – as Escolas das Águas – organizam-se para a manutenção da escolarização, no período da pandemia gerada pela COVID-19. Para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho, foi adotada uma perspectiva qualitativa. A coleta de dados ocorreu com levantamento e estudo de documentação local e realização de entrevistas abertas, via aplicativo WhatsApp, entre abril e junho de 2020, com gestoras e professoras dessas escolas. As análises da situação educacional foram elaboradas considerando-se o contexto amplo das políticas sociais, o que possibilitou a percepção de que populações vulneráveis podem ser mais fragilizadas em situações de exceção. Verificou-se a presença da educação, mediada pelas Escolas das Águas, como um dos únicos elos da população local com o poder público. Palavras-chave: Escola das Águas. COVID-19.
