Resumo: | Afro-Brazilian religions are important religious and cultural manifestations that allows the afro-descendant to see and build himself as a subject in a community. Umbanda, more Brazilian and mixed, is classified by some as “whitish”, but is still a way for the black subject to manifest his origin, an origin that for centuries was tried to erase, after the diaspora of coming to Brazil. Based on references from Cultural Studies, the emergence of the Templo Escolas, particularly the Templo Escola Beira Mar, in a city like Santa Cruz do Sul - RS, is studied as quite significant, as a way of democratizing and spreading the Umbanda religion. The study was bibliographically based, also consisting of interviews and unsystematic observation. The movement, in addition to disseminating knowledge, brings visibility to historically marginalized segments of society, that is, blacks, indigenous and the poor in general. |
