Resumo: The description and the teaching and learning of Portuguese as a Second Language (PL2E) cannot be restricted to the language’s formal matters, but must take into account aspects of our society’s subjective culture which become visible in cross-cultural environments. For the teaching of PL2E in such an ambience to be effective it is also necessary to consider cross-cultural competence aspects so that the apprentice may adequately and successfully merge into the target language speaking group.

Para que o ensino do PL2E nesse tipo de situação seja eficaz, é preciso, ainda, que aspectos de competência intercultural sejam considerados, para que o aprendiz possa adequadamente inserir-se com sucesso no grupo de falantes da língua alvo.
