The vaccine delay is configured when a child does not receive some from the vaccines that were indicated and programmed for it, as praised by the effective vaccine calendar. The child with vaccine delay possesses increased risk to contract immunopreventable illnesses, as well as diminishes the resistance in the net of communitarian immunity. In this direction, the research had as objective to understand factors related to the vaccine delay of children followed in the Program of Immunizations of the Center of Health-School of Umuarama-PR. For in such a way, the study it was executed by means of a research of exploratory character, with qualitative boarding, carried through in the period of June the October of 2009, in the Center of Health-School of Umuarama. Of a total of 52 children considered initially as behind schedule, they had been part of the research of 05 (five) families with minors of two years confirmed in situation of vaccine delay. Beyond the families, an operating professional in the vaccine room of the work. As instrument of collection of data, a script of half-structuralized interview was used. She was possible to evidence more delays between the children of the masculine sex, and in three cases, the child in focus was only son, residents in the urban area. How much to the immunizations behind schedule, one verified delays in vaccines against polio, DTP vaccine (1º reinforcement); third dose of the polio, tetravalent, yellow fever, rotavirus and hepatitis B. Considering that the lesser children of 2 years are part of with priority group for the Extended Program of Immunization, such indicative is preoccupying. The results suggest that the factors implied in the vaccine delay in the searched unit are related to the disengagement of the mother in regularly not inquiring the vaccine card of the child; forgetfulness of the vaccination, that can be linked to the great number of children and the degree of decurrently attributions of the functions exerted in the home. Other factors imply in lost chances, as the false contraindications, forgetfulness of the employee in requesting the card during the routine attendance, imperfections in the orientations on the part of the health professionals and the vaccine lack in the unit.
