This study main focus is on the politician and jornalist Carlos Lacerda and his democratic idea. The temporal cut is understood between the years 1945 and 1968, period that Brazil lived a democratic experience after the new state dictatorship and, after, by means of the civil-militar blow, in 1964, It had again its democracy overflew for two decades. In this context, which was desired to stablish guidelines to the country's development and clarify the way the democracy could be experienced, Lacerda put himself on the Spotlight of the main arguments and expectations about the brazilian political course. This way, Knowing his conception about such concept is vital to the understanding If the political conflicts of the years 1950 and 1960. Through book analysis, debates, interviews, articles and Lacerda editorial, It was sought more than reconstruct his public life as well as the brazilian history of the 40 and 60 decades. The main objective is to recover the democracy sense that mobilized his actions, not to justify them, but to understand and contextuase them. The present interest here is to understand the main influences which were received by Lacerda during his political career, the way as he stablished himself as a strong lidership not only in his political party but also in the national scenery and as he acted during the political crises periods, always connecting his thoughts and actions to the vision that he spreaded about what is democracy and the guidelines that he presented so that Brazil reached what He called by "true democracy". Understanding the present characteristics in Lacerda's democracy conception, It becomes possible to know and analise the democratic reform project elaborated by the politician with sights to implement in his expected governmemt as republic president. More than to frame Lacerda on new labels or on those pretty much explored , this research goes further in knowing his motivations and his actions sense so as to stablish himself as a Brasil "savior" and democracy paladin. Besides, the present work allows and provokes the reflexion about the democracy meanings to Brazil not only at that moment, but also these days and the challenges that permeates the fight towards its maintenance and legitimacy.
