Resumo: That dissertation is about children and favela. Children who are socio-political subjects and are in and do part of a culture and society. Sao Joao Favela, located in the north of Rio de Janeiro, with children of all ages and a culture with characteristics specific. From this theme, the main problem of the search was to reveal, understand, and to analyze meanings of the actions that the children expressed, the ways in which they occupied the spaces, places and times of the São João, their productions, ideas, and values in the relationship everyday life with peers and adults. It's a theme and a problem that find meaning in the confluence of the experiences personal, academic, and professionals experienced by the researcher who is a resident of São João. The focus analyses are the concepts of culture, childhood, peer culture, space and place, gender, and violence. The objective was to investigate the coming and going, the actions, gestures, and speeches of the children of São João. For this the methodology was structured as of observations, synthesized by records in the form of chronicles. The observations were made from a single point, from an apartment situated nearby characteristic places of this favela: campinho, bicão, slabs, alleys, and narrow street. The chronicles were written between August 2021 to February 2022 after the observations and reflections of the children’s meetings in these spaces and also observations of the daily life of the São João. Based on the observations, four categories were highlighted and listeded: 1) play and toys, 2) parties, 3) struggle and survival, and 4) gender. The analysis and production of this academic text and literary are grounded on the Childhood Studies and at the intersection with Children’s Studies. As results the research brings contributions to understand the childhood culture in São João, to participation of the children in the favela, and their ways of resisting the needs and problems that affect this place.

Crianças que são sujeitos sócio-político e estão na e fazem parte de uma cultura e sociedade. Favela do São João, localizada na zona norte do Rio de Janeiro, com crianças de todas as idades e uma cultura com características específicas. A partir desse tema, o principal problema da pesquisa foi revelar, compreender e analisar os significados das ações que as crianças manifestaram, as formas como ocuparam os espaços, lugares e tempos do São João, suas produções, ideias e seus valores na relação cotidiana com seus pares e os adultos. É um tema e um problema que encontram sentido no entrelace das experiências pessoais, acadêmicas e profissionais vivenciadas pela pesquisadora que é moradora do São João. Assim as análises centram-se nos conceitos de cultura, infância, cultura de pares, espaço e lugar, gênero e violência. O objetivo foi investigar o ir e vir, as ações, os gestos e as falas das crianças do São João. Para isso, levando em consideração que a pesquisa foi realizada em período pandêmico a metodologia estruturou-se na observação, sintetizadas por registros em forma de crônicas. As observações ocorreram a partir de um único ponto, de um apartamento situado próximo a lugares característicos dessa favela: campinho, bicão, lajes, becos e vielas. As crônicas foram escritas entre agosto de 2021 e até fevereiro de 2022 após as observações e reflexões dos encontros das crianças nesses espaços e também observações do cotidiano do São João. Com base nessas observações destacaram-se quatro categorias e elencadas nesta ordem: 1) brincadeira e brinquedos, 2) festas, 3) luta e sobrevivência, e 4) questões de gênero. As análises e a produção desse texto acadêmico e literário estão fundamentadas no campo dos estudos da infância e na intersecção com os estudos da criança.
