In attempting to reconstruct the Nietzschean critique to the philosophical reflection on moral phenomena, this study investigates the criterion used by Moral Philosophy in the systematization of the concept freedom and obligation on the basis of a so-called will to truth. The aim of this critical reconstruction is to investigate the role played by the notion of truthfulness in the philosophical understanding of actions and moral laws. Therefore, the study is concerned, in the first place, with the arguments used by Nietzsche to conceive the philosophical interpretation in its moral essence and by identifying in the human requirement for sociability one of the genesis for the notion of truthfulness. These two assumptions are crucial in the analysis of the Western hermeneutical proposals referring to the moral phenomena, such as Nietzsche proposed on the famous text Concerning Truth and Falsehood from an Extra-moral Point of view (1873) and in his later works. Then the difficulty that the philosophical tradition faced in attempting to find out the foundation for actions and moral laws is approached, especially in light of the crisis of the metaphysical thought. Finally, it seeks to present Nietzsche´s reflection on moral phenomenon as the most appropriate way to respond to the crisis of the metaphysical thought, thus it seeks to replace the theoretical assumptions of the philosophical tradition and present the notion of truthfulness as probity and virtue par excellence of "free spirit".
