Gênero, beleza e corpo nos desenhos animados: recepção e percepções de alunas e alunos de uma escola pública

This research aims to annalyze the construction, deconstruction, and maintenance of gender identity and media beauty standards, recurrents in cartoons such as Totally Spies! (As Três Espiãs Demais, PT Br), Winx Club (O Clube das Winx, PT Br), and Adventure Time (A hora da Aventura, PT Br), under the perception of highschool students from a public school in a Duque de Caxias low-income neighborhood. The basis that support this work have commom points of view with the post-structuralistic perspective, in which cultural researches and studies about gender and sexuality indicate the inputs for the concepts of gender, gender identity, sexuality, representation and aesthetic (beauty). The chosen methods for the dialogue with these teenagers were made up of, initially, a questionnaire in which there are relevant pieces of information for further developments of the following steps for this survey. Such pieces of information were related to the cartoons that stood as focus for individual conversations and debates on the Exhibition group. The screened episodes were selected as far as they addressed significantly topics as gender identity, sexual orientation and aesthetics discussion. It tries to identify the gender identity and beauty standards that prevail on cartoons in order to spot the potentials that these archetypes can present to contribute for a particular gender conception and hegemonic beauty, or even to avoid such conceptions. Another point is that, from the reception of these pupils, it tries to raise awareness that rejects or resignifies these role models. The current work seeks to figure out how these concepts about gender beauty and body go through the formulation of gender identity and on beauty standards to create and delimit the well-known male and female universes. Briefly, it points that the boundaries that stake out the practices pertaining to these universes are constantly restored when they show gaps in Totally Spies! and Winx Club, while in Adventure Time what is proposed is to disrupt them. In these representations, the discorses about body, which (un) tie gender and aesthetics production, reverbarate on the singularities of female students and act on the identities constructions.
