This research seeks to broaden the debate on social movements fighting for housing in the context of the capitalist city. Grounded in the concept of right to the city, we aimed to analyze the spatialities of social movements fighting for housing in the first decade of this century, in the central area of Rio de Janeiro. The presence of land and empty buildings public or private raises questions because a municipality with high housing deficit has many empty spaces. Contradictions that result from the denial of the right to the city for all citizens. Thus, the expansion of the struggles for housing in our society expresses profound worsening called social question at this juncture and at the same time reveals the organizational capacity of the working class segments of extremely impoverished. From the study of the struggle carried out by the occupations of residents homeless, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Manoel Congo and Regent Feijó, we analyze how this social practice produces a new spatiality in the central area of the city of Rio de Janeiro. This dynamic not only indicates the time to fight for housing, but also how social movements are organized from this space. Urban social movements that, in the struggle of everyday life, producing spaces and social relations alternative to the current model of uneven geographical development. The spatiality of occupations symbolize resistance and creative action to demonstrate to the government that it is possible to transform the empty spaces in the city on affordable housing, providing, in this way, in terms of improved quality of life for its residents. The right to the city means being in the city and living there, in its fullness, that is, making use of all its blessings, actively participating in its construction and reconstruction. But counteraction of agents who benefit from the existing order is immediate, there are several strategies to demobilize social movements. In this sense, the formation of a network of solidarity resistance movements struggling for housing seeks to promote the strengthening of the fight right to the city through a training policy grounded in the experience of struggle.
