Resumo: This study aims to propose activities involving the history of mathematics as an instigator of knowledge. We note the great difficulty that many students have with the discipline of mathematics, especially in today’s world where the stimuli are constant and the room in mind is the background. Thus, it sought to substantiate the history of mathematics in ancient times, favoring Mesopotamia, Egypt and Greece as civilizations that have produced significant milestones in mathematics. After this overview, we investigated the willingness of students to classes involving the history of mathematics through questionnaires aimed at better understand students’ views about their roles as active agents of their own knowledge and what is the place that mathematics occupies in their lives. Finally, after analysis of the questionnaires concrete activities have been proposed in the form of workshops, in order to make students protagonists of the construction of knowledge.

Observa-se a grande dificuldade que muitos alunos possuem com a disciplina da matemática, principalmente no mundo contemporâneo onde os estímulos são constantes e a atenção em sala encontra-se em segundo plano. Desta forma, buscou-se fundamentar a história da matemática na antiguidade, privilegiando Mesopotâmia, Egito e Grécia como civilizações que produziram marcos significativos na matemática. Após esse panorama, investigou-se a predisposição dos alunos para aulas que envolvessem a história da matemática através de questionários que visavam compreender melhor a visão dos alunos sobre seus papéis como agentes ativos de seu próprio conhecimento e qual o lugar que a matemática ocupa em suas vidas.
