This work aimed to study the effects of evaluation logic of the scientific production present in the country and in the Institute of Social Medicine of UERJ (IMS / UERJ) now a days. Guided by the question: would be the 'market logic' a "specific condition" on the process of scientific production and building of scientific knowledge? It presents itself as a qualitative research that aimed to investigate and analyze the impacts of the new evaluation logic, defined and implemented by CAPES since 1998, on postgraduation programs and on the scientific production of the IMS. It was performed on the basis of documentary analysis and on available literature analysis, as wel as on interviews with the academic community of the IMS. The sample of interviewed was composed of teachers/researchers who occupied Steering Position on the Institute since 1998 (one), postgraduate coordinators since 1998 (five) and teachers/researchers who work at the Institute (two). The content analysis technique was used for the data analysis, setting up categories and subcategories of analysis, based on the initial reading of the literature, documents and the interviews transcriptions. Between 2001 and 2013, the Institute gradually rose from five to seven on its general assessment score, promoting, however, internal questionings regarding the significance of this progression. As a result of the interviews, questionings and criticism regarding the quality of scientific production and the innovative aspect of this were present. In addition, the criticisms of the effects of this new scientific production logic, introduced by the changes in the evaluation criterias of CAPES, on different subareas of its postgraduation program, regarding the maintainment of the interdisciplinary nature of public health. Important considerations also emerged about the impacts promoted, by this new logic, on the relationships between peers, on the teachers'/researchers' works and lives. And also their concerns about the future of the science, of the new researchers and the students' training.
