The aim of this study is to think about the translation choices of language students, trainees of the Escritório Modelo de Tradução of ILE-UERJ. The texts analyzed belong to the Corpus of Translation Learners of UERJ (CATUERJ). They were translated by the students during the internship in the office. To analyze the texts, thirteen Translation Procedures proposed by Francis Aubert (1998) were used, originating from technical translation procedures (Vinay and Darbelnet, 1958/1995). Three pairs of texts from specialized translation area (aligned and segmented by Ramos, 2016) were analyzed, using the LFAligner tool. The texts were divided into two subcorpora: CATUERJ-Ing and CATUERJ-Tra. Translation units represented by words, phrases or sentences were used to identify the translation procedures used by the learners. The purpose of the data provided by the corpus was to answer the following questions: (1) What are the translation procedures most widely used by translation learners? (2) Is there a relation between the incidence of a particular procedure of translation and the textual typology? (3) Is it necessary to review the model proposed by Aubert by adapting it to the needs of the texts analyzed? As a summary of the results, I point out that (1) the transposition was the most often used procedure, followed by literal translation. (2) A high frequency of direct translation procedures was observed in the texts of the specialized translation area. (3) I did not think it necessary to modify or include some procedure of translation. Among the comments generated in this study are the demands of the source and target texts, respecting the cultural, linguistic, grammatical and pragmatic aspects of the languages involved and the use of the translation procedures as an aid to deal with problems arising from the act of translating, helping them to support and validate their translation choices.
