This project aims to study the representations of social conflicts occurred in the formation of the State of Senegal in the cinematographic works of Ousmane Sembène in the 60s until the beginning of the 80s. In this period the State was under the government of Leopold Sédar Senghor in which the politic direction covered the conception of Marxist-Leninist socialism and Negritude. The transition of the literature to the cinema for Sembène occurred for achieve the masses who were, in their most, illiterate. Therefore his films are made in Wolof and French, the latter due to the governments requirements and interest of greater amplitude receptive. When studying social conflict in Senegal's recent period of independence we see the key idea behind this reality are the national identity, black solidarity and pan-africanism. We start from the conception that the identity is a construction and the use of race as a legitimation weakens its strength, because assume a solidarity just for the fact of being black decreases its legitimating strength.
