This study aims to investigate the meanings of the struggle carried out by the unions of domestic workers in the State of Rio de Janeiro in favor of emancipation regarding the oppression and precariousness experienced by domestic workers in the exercise of their function. To this end, it relies on the conduct of empirical activity translated into interviews with the union leaders of the said unions, together with empirical research on the militancy of Laudelina Campos de Melo and the influence of the Catholic Church along with the formation of unions through the Catholic Youth Workers- JOC. The research relies on the addition of theoretical frameworks in order to find in the slave heritage, in the issues of gender hierarchy, class, and in the concepts of the second slavery, subordinate workers and coloniality of power, the keys for the intertwining of gender issues, race and class as a confluence in paid domestic work. In addition, Marxian theory will be studied through the mediation of theorists who study Marx, in order to reveal the need to maintain an exploratory framework by the capitalist system, pointing out that the struggle is also against capital.
