Resumo: | Studies of resilience have increased in recent years, as we see more and more the consolidation of our understanding of how the strategies to increase it can be transformative and positive from both the individual and the collective perspectives. This construct can be conceptualized as the ability of individuals, in diferente degrees, to grow and prosper, despite having been exposed to negative experiences, even on a continual basis.The objective of the present study is to analyze the resilience of medical students at a public university in Rio de Janeiro.A cross-sectional study was performed with the eligible students from among a total of 542 who responded to an on-line questionnaire, which they could complete by themselves without any type of reward, and where the principal variant was resilience, measured by Wagnild and Young s scale of resilience.Differentsócio-demographic, health and academic variables were also evaluated. Two statistical analyses were applied to this material, resulting in two distinct works.In the first one, factors such as sex, race, previous school, financial independence, life style, parents level of education, religion, and quota-based admission were evaluated. Smoking, abusive consumption of alcohol, and the use of illegal drugs were not associated with resilience.Then a multi-variant analysis was made, using logistic ordinal regression, where the associations were maintained only between the larger index of perception of one s own health (OR:0.57; IC0.41-0.81) and being older (OR: 1.37: IC:1.12-1,67). In the second article, practically all the variables most closely related to income have been excluded and variables such as empathy, reason for having chosen to study medicine, and the coefficiente of return (CR) have been included, in pursuit of a greater understanding of the variables most directly related to the student.The analysis of correspondence followed by an analysis of clusters is then applied. Once resilience and the non-use of illegal drugs that could lead to dependence (odds ratio (OR): 0.58; interval of confidence (IC): 0.41-0.80), having a better again, there was no association with sex, religion, race, and the level of parents education. The CR also does not show a correlation with resilience. On the other hand, the perceptual map showed a correlation between low resilience and the clinical cycle (half-way through the course)-- low empathy, difficulty in selecting a specialization, altruism as a motive for choosing medicine, the negative perception of one s own health, and the abusive use of alcohol and licit and illicit drugs. The students with high resilience showed an association with clerkship, high empathy and better perception of their own health.Certain conclusions merit greater emphasis:The absence of a correlation with the variables relating to income directs us to considering the possibility of ways in which to increase resilience and, with this, to improve the lives of the individuals, irrespective of their financial condition.The association of low resilience with the variables considered negative , such as high-risk behavior in terms of health issues and with low empathy, shows the fragility of this group of students. This explains where the focus of the transformative attention of medical schools should take place.The correlation of a student in an internship with the other variables described appears to suggest a well-grounded student with greater self-awareness who is capable of making more assertive choices. |

Esse constructo pode ser conceituado como a capacidade das pessoas, em graus diferentes, diante da exposição a experiência negativas, mesmo que de forma contínua,conseguirem aprender, crescer e prosperar. O presente estudo tem por objetivo principal analisar a resiliência de estudantes de medicina de uma universidade pública do Rio de Janeiro. Realizou-se estudo transversal com os alunos elegíveis, totalizando um censo com 542 estudantes, que responderam a um questionário online, autopreenchível, sem nenhuma recompensa, onde a variável principal foi a resiliência, mensurada pela Escala de Resiliência de Wagnild e Young. Diferentes variáveis sociodemográficas, comportamentais de saúde e acadêmicas também foram avaliadas.Aplicou-se duas análises estatísticas nesse material, resultando em dois trabalhos distintos. No primeiro avaliou-se fatores como sexo, raça, escola anterior, independência financeira, situação de vida, nível de educação dos pais, religião, admissão baseada em cota. Tabagismo, consumo abusivo de álcool e uso de drogas ilegais não foram associados à resiliência.Fez-se então uma análise multivariada, usando regressão logística ordinal, onde as associações foram mantidas somente entre o maior índice de resiliência e não usar drogas legais que podem levar à dependência (oddsratio (OR): 0,58; intervalo de confiança (IC): 0,41-0,80), ter uma melhor percepção de um saúde própria (OR: 0,57; IC: 0,41-0,81) e ser mais velho (OR: 1,37; IC: 1,12-1,67). No segundo artigo, excluiu-se praticamente todas as variáveis mais relacionadas à renda e incluiu-se variáveis como empatia, motivo por que escolheu fazer medicina, escolha da especialidade e coeficiente de rendimento (CR), buscando um maior entendimento das variáveis mais diretamente relacionadas ao estudante. Aplicou-se, então, a análise de correspondência seguida de uma análise de clusters. Novamente aqui não houve associação com sexo, religião, raça e escolaridade dos pais. O CR também não mostrou inter-relação com a resiliência. Por outro lado, o mapa perceptual mostrou associação entre a baixa resiliência com o ciclo clínico (meio do curso), baixa empatia, dificuldade de escolha da especialidade, altruísmo como motivo de escolha da medicina, a percepção ruim da própria saúde, o uso abusivo de álcool, drogas lícitas e ilícitas. Os alunos com alta resiliência mostram associação com internato, alta empatia e melhor percepção da sua saúde.
