This thesis falls within the field of Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS), specifically in the subfield of translation historiography, using microhistory as methodology to investigate the repercussion and reception of Paulo Freire and Pedagogy of the oppressed in English. Based on Giovanni Levi's Italian microhistory, it uses paratexts and metatexts as research sources to construct one of the versions of the microhistory of Pedagogy of the oppressed that seeks to understand the role of the translation of this piece of work, throughout all these years, in the diffusion of Paulo Freire’s legacy around the world and in the internationalization of Pedagogy. Its results point to the importance of translation and the role of patronage in the impact of this work, in particular, and of the educator in several foreign countries, as well as in Brazil. Moreover, it begins an analysis of this impact on the work itself from amendments made at specific points in the translation currently published, analyzed by comparing the first and last editions of the book in English. This research aims to provide the construction of the historical fact Paulo Freire and Pedagogy of the oppressed by reinforcing the importance of the microhistory methodology for a research in translation historiography.
