Resumo: The present work is part of the field of Translation Studies of scientific texts. It focuses mainly on a Brazilian author Paulo Freire , and investigates the paratexts of the English and Spanish translations of Pedagogy of the Oppressed, based on the Polysystem Theory and in Descriptive Translation Studies. It encompasses the study of paratexts, always in line with publishing theories and practice. It brings an application of the methodological model of Lambert and van Gorp (2011) combined with Genette s concepts of paratexts (2009) and Araújo s concepts of publishing (2008). It proposes an update on the list of translations of Pedagogy of the Oppressed into English and Spanish, with the aim of enriching studies on Paulo Freire and his work and of investigating its importance in the field of Education outside Brazil. Finally, from the investigation of the selected paratexts, the present work culminates in observations on the (in)visibility of the translator, the role of patronage and the importance of the work Pedagogy of the Oppressed in the polysystem of scientific translations in the field of Education.

Tendo como foco principal um autor brasileiro Paulo Freire , investiga os paratextos das capas das versões da obra Pedagogia do Oprimido para o inglês e o espanhol com base na Teoria dos Polissistemas, nos Estudos Descritivos e engloba o estudo dos paratextos sempre em consonância com as teorias e práticas de editoração. Traz uma aplicação do modelo metodológico de Lambert e van Gorp (2011), mesclando-a com os conceitos de paratextos de Genette (2009) e com os conceitos de editoração de Araújo (2008). Propõe uma atualização da lista de versões da obra para os idiomas inglês e espanhol com o objetivo de enriquecer os estudos voltados para Paulo Freire e a Pedagogia do Oprimido e de investigar sua importância no campo da Educação fora do Brasil.
