Due the relevant participation of the Family Health field, in the context of changes in the healthcare model in Brazil, the current study has its goals in analyzing the health actions performed by nurses and the use of clinical protocols and therapeutic guidelines in the current context of the Family Health Strategy in the city of Rio de Janeiro. In order to build the established goals, a quantitative approach was adopted and as a delineation the survey method, descriptive, cross-sectional type, performed with nurses who work in family health care teams in Rio de Janeiro city. The information collection was carried out with pre-selected variables in a structured and self-applied instrument, containing three document sections available on the internet by e-mail. The data collection happened between June and October of 2016. For the datas' treatment and analysis, the descriptive analysis was used, throughout the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Regarding the nurses' socio-demographic, professional / institutional profile (n = 219), it was shown that even though a growing male gender participation can be noticed, ratified by other studies, the female gender (147 - 84.97%) is still predominant in the profession. In the family healthcare teams work, mainly, women, in the active and fertile age, between 24 and 35 years old (127 - 72,99%). According to the collected data, the interest is in the continuity of the formation and searching for clinical protocols and therapeutic guidelines. Concerning the health actions performed by the professionals involved in the research, these are not unlinked from both global and local scenarios. The answer "always" to the recommended actions by the National Policy of Basic Attention (n = 232) were expressive for: the attention to the individuals health (213 - 91,81); nursing query (215 - 92.67%); attention to spontaneous demand (216 - 93.10%) and planning, management and evaluation (173 - 74.57%). These findings may demonstrate the resistance of the curative model in the nurses' attributions, given the percentage expression referent to spontaneous demand. The majority of the nurses (145 - 96,03%) get to use protocols as a consultation, updating and/or contribution form to the accomplishment of their health actions. The most consulted protocols, according to the nurses, were those that were aimed to the attention to the child (94 62,25%), woman (89 57,05%) and man s health and to the family planning (85 - 56,07). From the obtained results, it could be reflected about the complexity that goes through the health actions that were carried out by the nurses in the context of the Family health. The data revealed that the nurses who act in the family s health of Rio de Janeiro city believe that the clinical protocols and therapeutic guidelines correspond to the tools that support the accomplishment of its health actions and makes clinical approach easier.
