Dismemberment cartography of municipalities in the Rio Grande do Norte State (1980-2000)

Resumo: The state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN) is located in the Northeast of Brazil and is considered one of the smallest in relation to territorial dimensions. It is a federated state with municipal divisions currently being divided into 167 municipalities. Throughout its formation, the RN has been fragmented in several municipalities since the imperial period. In the 1980s and especially in the 1990s there were several fragmentations that led to the creation of new municipalities. In this sense, this article aims to present cartographically the process of dismemberment and creation of new municipalities in the State of RN, during the 1980s and 1990s. To reach the objectives, readings were made about the process of emancipation of municipalities in Brazil. and especially in RN, besides the cartography elaboration using the free software program QGis (version 2.14.11). In the 1980s two new municipalities were created while in the following decade 15 municipalities were created. A total of 10 maps were elaborated showing the municipalities emancipated by geographic microregion.

Es un estado federado con divisiones municipales actualmente divididas en 167 municipios. A lo largo de su formación, el RN se ha fragmentado en varios municipios desde el perí­odo imperial. En la década de 1980 y especialmente en la década de 1990 hubo varias fragmentaciones que condujeron a la creación de nuevos municipios. En este sentido, este artí­culo tiene como objetivo presentar cartográficamente el proceso de desmembramiento y creación de nuevos municipios en el Estado de RN, durante los años ochenta y noventa. y especialmente en RN, además de la elaboración de cartografí­a utilizando el programa de software libre QGis (versión 2.14.11). En la década de 1980 se crearon dos nuevos municipios, mientras que en la década siguiente se crearon 15 municipios. Se elaboraron un total de 10 mapas que muestran los municipios emancipados por la microrregión geográfica.O Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (RN) está localizado na Região Nordeste do Brasil sendo considerado um dos menores em relação í s dimensões territoriais. É um estado federado com divisões municipais estando atualmente dividido em 167 municí­pios. Ao longo de sua formação, o RN tem se fragmentado em vários municí­pios desde o perí­odo imperial. Na década de 1980 e especialmente na década de 1990 houveram diversas fragmentações que ocasionaram a criação de novos municí­pios. Nesse sentido, esse artigo tem como objetivo apresentar cartograficamente o processo de desmembramento e criação de novos municí­pios no Estado do RN, ao longo das décadas de 1980 e 1990. Para atingir os objetivos, foram realizadas leituras sobre o processo de emancipação de municí­pios no Brasil e especialmente no RN, além da elaboração da cartografia utilizando o programa de software livre QGis (versão 2.14.11). Na década de 1980 foram criados dois novos municí­pios enquanto na década seguinte criaram-se 15 municí­pios.
