The letters area, the society project and the human evaluation that are necessaries for our reality

Base text for the closing conference of the event celebrating the 50 years of the Letters course at the Universidade Federal do Acre. Initially, the lecturer thanks for the invitation and congratulates everyone who built the course's history; then read a short narrative collected and published by the Brothers Grimm; then, it starts with a characterization of the society we live in, organized in social classes with antagonistic interests. It justifies the importance of this characterization of society arguing that: a) it is this society, divided into antagonistic classes, which forms human beings and in which human beings are formed; and b) only by understanding this society well is it possible to think about the social function of the area and of professionals in Letters. In the final part, she defends a reorientation of the knowledge developed and the activity of Letters professionals that surpass the current conditions of production and socialization of knowledge in the area.
