The objective of this work is to present a reflection on the Public Policy Cycle in the light of the Innovation Policy of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Bahia (IFBA). For this, a qualitative exploratory study was carried out with bibliographical and documental research procedures, through content analysis. It is justified by outlining the public policy cycle applied to innovation policy, highlighting the phases of the cycle with the institute's actions, bringing theoretical contributions to the practice of public managers. Thus, it was possible to explore essential aspects of the cycle and understand why innovation entered the IFBA agenda, as well as the reasons for updating its innovation policy. It is concluded that the IFBA Innovation Policy follows the phases of the public policy cycle, following the legal basis, but still lacks greater dynamism for its maturation and implementation in institutional actions and programs.
