The Evolution of Science and Technology Institutes and their Technological Innovation Centers in Brazil

With the publication of the Law of Innovation in 2004, reiterated in 2016 by the Legal Marco of the Innovation, the Science and Technology Institutions (STIs) and their Technological Innovation Centers (TICs) have been increasingly representative in the processes and demands of innovation policies throughout the country, thus contributing for the socio-economic growth of Science and Technology. This research sought to appraise the nationwide evolution of the STIs and their TICs, their legal nature, localities by region, and economic resources obtained through technology contracts. For this end, this work performed a qualitative and exploratory research based on the data extracted from the Formict reports. The results present an overview of the institutions and points to a dwindled participation from the institutions in the exploration of resources with technology contracts. The work concludes that the aforementioned institutions need to widen their participation in exploration of the available resources for intellectual protection.
