Resumo: | The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technological paradigm that allows the joint articulation of various devices remotely through the sharing of data. This capacity opens up a variety of possibilities for the use of this technology, including in services. IoT in healthcare allows for the collection, diagnosis, and monitoring of patients inside and outside of the hospital. In a 2020 report, the National Bank of Economic and Social Development (BNDES, 2017) highlighted the healthcare sector as a priority for the development of IoT in Brazil. The pandemic has further highlighted its importance. Therefore, this article discusses the opportunities and challenges of applying this technological paradigm in healthcare from the perspective of the relevant patents already filed in Brazil for its application. To this end, a literature review and mapping of patents already filed in Brazil with the most relevant technologies for the use of IoT were conducted, including a literature review with patent mapping. Although the country has a favorable environment for the development of IoT-based services, it is necessary to address regulatory, ethical, standardization of electronic protocols, and data protection challenges, as well as integrated actions in public and private policies. |
