Resumo: Sisal is a herbaceous plant cultivated for its fibrous properties that have wide industrial application and whose by-products are discarded. The present work aims to make a prospection on the applications of sisal and its by-products, evaluating the global and national panorama of the protection of technologies developed in the area. The prospective study was carried out based on patent applications deposited in the INPI and Espacenet databases from the year 1889 to the period 06/2022. It was found that China leads the technological ranking in relation to sisal, followed by Brazil and the United Kingdom. Brazil follows the global trend of growth of technologies in the subject, but presents a slower development. The results show that little investment is still made in the sisal production chain and in public policies that strengthen technological innovation in the country.

O presente trabalho objetiva fazer uma prospecção sobre as aplicações do sisal e seus subprodutos, avaliando o panorama mundial e nacional da proteção de tecnologias desenvolvidas na área. O estudo prospectivo foi realizado com base nos pedidos de patentes depositados nos bancos de dados do INPI e Espacenet do ano de 1889 até o período de junho de 2022. Foi constatado que a China lidera o ranking tecnológico com relação ao sisal, seguida pelo Brasil e pelo Reino Unido. O Brasil acompanha a tendência mundial de crescimento de tecnologias no assunto, mas apresenta um desenvolvimento mais lento.
