Evolutionary Analysis of Patents Deposits in Southern Brazil in Light of the Innovation Law

Resumo: Patents are considered a relevant indicator to measure a country's technological progress, and may reflect the government stimulus to the promoting of innovation and scientific and technological development. Thus, this study presents an analysis of the evolution of patent application filings in the Southern region of Brazil, based on data from the National Institute of Industrial Property from 2000 to 2019, in order to identify the increase in these filings from the enactment of the Innovation Law, in 2004. This is explanatory research, with a quantitative approach and a hypothetical-deductive method. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The result demonstrates that the number of patent filings has been increasing since 2004, both nationally and regionally. It is also noted that, despite government incentives, the growth of these patent filings for the states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul is still slow.

Assim, este estudo apresenta uma análise da evolução dos depósitos de pedidos de patentes da Região Sul do Brasil, a partir de dados do Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI) no período de 2000 a 2019, a fim de identificar o incremento desses depósitos a partir da promulgação da Lei de Inovação em 2004. Trata-se de pesquisa explicativa, com abordagem quantitativa e método hipotético-dedutivo. Os dados foram analisados a partir de estatística descritiva. O resultado demonstra que é crescente o número de depósitos de pedidos de patentes a partir de 2004, tanto a nível nacional quanto regional.
