This dissertation comprises two studies aiming to investigate the changes in verbal fluency (VF) tests in 68 children, without comorbidities and with delay in literacy, with typical development (TD) with learning difficulties (AD), the last being indicated by the teacher for an intervention program in reading and writing and, at least, relate the performance in these tests with the development of reading skills. The first study evaluated VF, through the Semantic Verbal Fluency (SVF) and Phonemic Verbal Fluency (PVF) tests in 2-5 year-old elementary school students, verifying its association with reading and writing skills and their score with neuropsychological tests that evaluate reasoning ability, working memory, lexical access speed, oral reading and phonological awareness. The second study, complementary to the first, compared the performance of the cluster and switch components in the VF tests (SVF and PVF) of the same sample, verifying the associations in the performance of the VF tests following the same methodological criteria of the first study for the effect of year school, type of task and group. In the result of the first study, the comparison between the school years presented a statistically significant result for the total number of correct answers in both VF tests and there was an improvement in the score only in the PVF test in the TD group. There were statistically significant positive correlations between PVF and SVF, and PVF with other cognitive tests mainly reading, phonological awareness and rapid naming. In the multilinear regression, it was found that for the number of words read correctly, the Phonological Awareness tests and the PVF were the improve predictors. In the second study, a higher number of clusters, average cluster size and switch in SVF than in PVF were found. A statistically significant difference was also observed for group effect for the total number of clusters in the SVF test, in which the DT group scored more than the LD. The total correct answers in the VF tests showed a moderate and large correlation with the variables of the VF tests for the test effect, group and school years. A correlation of cluster and switch variables was observed with the overall performance in PVF, but in the SVF test the correlation was large with only the number of clusters and switches, but not with the average cluster size. The linear regression analysis showed higher variance for the total number of clusters in both VF tests, making it more predictive for performance in VF tests. VF tests are sensitive to different cognitive abilities, as observed mainly in the PVF test in this study, reading and writing are complex and important skills for literacy, requiring several cognitive processes. The present studies showed differences in the various variables of verbal fluency tests found in the comparison of students with typical development and learning difficulties. Mainly the PVF test was more sensitive and predictive with performance related to lexical access and reading skills in general. The contribution of this study is configured in the importance of the look that should be given to students with atypical development resulting in delayed learning and also in the possibilities that VF tests have to identify these students.Lukasova, KaterinaCarthery-Goulart, Maria TeresaSalles, Jerusa Fumagalli deVanzella, Patrícia MariaTeixeira, Diego Siqueira de Lima2021info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisapplication/pdf82 f.http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/index.php?codigo_sophia=122272http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/index.php?codigo_sophia=122272&midiaext=79552http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/index.php?codigo_sophia=122272&midiaext=79551Cover: http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/php/capa.php?obra=122272porreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFABCinstname:Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC)instacron:UFABCinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2022-04-01T18:59:44Zoai:BDTD:122272Repositório InstitucionalPUBhttp://www.biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/oai/oai.phpopendoar:2022-04-01T18:59:44Repositório Institucional da UFABC - Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC)false |
