The representations of health professionals about obesity can be manifested in the treatment of people with obesity and affect the therapeutic relationship and adherence to treatment. The aim was to investigate the social representations of obesity in the work context of bariatric surgery team professionals. Seven professionals were interviewed, and the results were organized using the Discourse of the Collective Subject method and analyzed according to the Theory of Social Representations. The main discourses of the collective subject highlight that professionals have some prejudiced beliefs and attitudes towards people with obesity, identification of negative feelings of professionals that can harm the therapeutic bond, emphasis on the importance of teamwork and the lack of psychological support to professionals who work with obesity. It was possible to identify potentials and difficulties faced by professionals and emphasize the importance of interventions directed at reception and new production of meanings.
