Resumo: Born in 1920, Celso Furtado is certainly among the main Brazilian social thinkers and his relevance goes beyond national borders. For over 50 years he has written on various subjects; addressed the political, economic, cultural, bureaucratic, etc. dimensions of Brazilian society and state; he´s participated in important political events in the country's history and has notable participation in international organizations. Author of a vast and profound work, Furtado left a relevant legacy to Brazilian social and political thought, as well as leaving open paths for further investigations on Brazil. The wealth of enterprises like these, of joining several articles about an author and his work, is precisely in the possibility of expanding the range of views and perspectives on the themes, objects and problems treated by a great thinker like Celso Furtado.
