The large volume of information that transits daily on digital channels has been causing not only an overload of data, but mainly an anxiety in the minds of their users. This research presents a theoretical and conceptual framework on the historical origins and the relationship between anxiety, informational behavior and information literacy in the context of excess information in social networks and its impacts on information consumption, especially in the use of Instagram. For the development of the research, the guiding question was defined - how does the excess of information available on the social network, Instagram, impact behavior and cause informational anxiety in Librarianship students at the Federal University of Ceará? With the general objective: to analyze the behavior and informational anxiety of Librarianship students, caused by the excess of information available on Instagram. The specific objectives: a) characterize the informational behavior of students regarding the consumption of information on Instagram; b) outline the students who consider themselves affected by informational anxiety; c) identify the triggers of social networks that can cause informational anxiety; and d) verify the main symptoms and consequences of informational anxiety. The methodology adopted is exploratory and descriptive, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The data collection instrument was a semi-structured questionnaire developed on the Google Form platform. For the interpretation of data, content analysis was adopted. When analyzing the data, it was observed that information overload causes informational anxiety in students, generating negative feelings and behaviors, such as: excessive consumption; the avoidance of information among others. It was evidenced that a part of the students uses Instagram consciously by delimiting the access time, identifying the type of content they want, demonstrating the presence of information competence in informational behavior, contributing to the prevention of harmful behaviors and anxiety symptoms. It was concluded that informational anxiety is fostered by the excess of information, being caused by the way the individual behaves in this context. However, it showed that informational and media skills added to techniques and cognitive skills can contribute to a healthier informational behavior.
