Amid the advancement of technology, police forces sought to incorporate as a form of aid to fight crime, methods of social control, especially the use of video surveillance cameras in urban spaces. As a way to assimilate the minutiae and particularities of this type of system, this research aims to understand the role of the video surveillance system for the public safety of the city of Eusébio (CE) from a case study. As specific objectives this research aims to: characterize the institution responsible for monitoring in the city: the Municipal Police of Eusébio; describe the institutional trajectory of the use of cameras in t he municipality and portray the reality of the city 's video surveillance system. For this, an exploratory research of qualitative character was used and used, both bibliographic and documentary research, which were based on surveillance. Direct contact wa s also employed as a methodology through a visit to the Integrated Center for Municipal Command and Control (CICCM), where a focused interview was conducted with military and municipal police operating the system. Through this information framework, it was possible to identify that the video surveillance system, besides having a base led by security professionals with roots in the militarization, entails new relationships due to the control of urban spaces and the invasion of privacy resulting from its use, identifying the everyday details of the inner city. It is concluded that cameras lead to a new form of control of urban spaces and society itself in contemporary times. As the subject is still a research object little explored academically in Brazil, this research seeks to strengthen the scope of surveillance studies and serve as a basis for future investigations.
