Resumo: Libraries, heritage preservation spaces and inseparable from education, are vital for social development and the environmental preservation of the societies in which they are located. Being non-formal learning space, they stand out, because it is through the mediation with the users in the search for information that meaningful learning occurs. Following that line of thought, it is proposed to reflect on libraries as learning spaces, based on a bibliographic review and discusses the contribution of the librarian to Environmental Education as an educator. Therefore, the librarian must collaborate so that the conscious environmental information is assimilated by the users to investigate their ecological practices.

Therefore, the librarian must collaborate so that the conscious environmental information is assimilated by the users to investigate their ecological practices.Diante da realidade ambiental em que se vive é necessário que haja a colaboração de diversos profissionais para a garantia de um ambiente saudável, para esta e as próximas gerações. As bibliotecas, espaços de preservação do patrimônio e indissociáveis da educação, são vitais para desenvolvimento social e da preservação ambiental das sociedades onde operam. Nesse contexto, o bibliotecário tem ampliado seus espaços de atuação para além das tradicionais atividades atinentes à biblioteca e, tem se destacado. Pois, é por meio da mediação, junto aos usuários na busca pela informação, valorizando o que eles já sabem que a Aprendizagem Significativa ocorre. Nessa linha, propõe-se uma reflexão sobre as bibliotecas enquanto espaços de aprendizagem, a partir de revisão bibliográfica, discutindo a contribuição do bibliotecário como educador para a Educação Ambiental. Esse estudo possibilitou concluir que o bibliotecário não só pode operar neste contexto como possui as atribuições para atuar em projetos de educação ambiental.
