WHAT DO BRAZILIANS SAY ABOUT USAGES OF CONSTRUCTIONS WITH SUPPORT VERB?

We focus on constructional patterns with support verb GIVE, as a verbalizing operator of non-verbal elements of the type (um(a)) X-[a/i]da, (um(a)) X-[a/i]dinha, (um(a)) X-adela and (um(a)) X-(z)inh[o/a], such as dar uma escapadinha and dar uma olhadela (more or less near take a short break and take a short look). We are based on assumptions of Functional-Cognitive Linguistics and Construction Grammar. We use data taken from real situations of communication, online collection of the newspaper O Globo (1925 to 2015), in order to deal with subjective evaluation. The methodology is that of experimental research based on the uses observed in such texts. The objectives are to observe which values ​​are associated by Brazilians with the uses of these constructions and describe the formal and functional characteristics of these complex predicates, also considering the speaker’s perspective of them. Results point out that these constructions highlight not only aspectuality, but, mainly, the modal value, and these values ​​are recognized by the informants.
