Resumo: Since the Portuguese arrival in Brazil, in 1500, the native peoples have been represented by the Eurocentric bias. It appeared in the letters of the first explorers sent to the Portuguese Crown, in the catechization sermons, in the paintings made during expeditions that documented the territory and, later, in books, and in several didactic, audiovisual and journalistic materials. The decolonial turn began at the end of the 20th century, when Brazilian indigenous people started to record and publish their own images and narratives. Through theoretical research and literature review, from the perspective of Cultural and Decolonial Studies, it appears that communication is the central element of indigenous identity policies and self-representation marks the break with the image of the generic, static in time and stereotyped indigenous, which we consider a politic of identities resistance.

O giro decolonial começa no final do Século XX, quando indígenas brasileiros passam a registrar e publicar imagens e narrativas próprias.
