Revolution Gray: liberation and mediatization

Resumo: In contemporary times, a women's social movement, of international scope, called the revolution gray, appears and gains visibility. In it, women of different ages are taking on white and gray hair. The objective of the research was to carry out a narrative review in order to characterize, discuss and document the production on the subject. The selection of the material was made in the year 2021 using the terms “revolution gray”, “white hair”, “gray hair” and “gray power”, both in Portuguese and English. Primary and secondary sources were consulted. The analysis of the material collected indicated a tension between the discourses of liberation from normative beauty standards and the mediatization of the movement as a fashion trend, which represents and reproduces traditionally worshiped female profiles.

En él, mujeres de distintas edades van luciendo canas y gris. El objetivo de la investigación fue realizar una revisión narrativa con el fin de caracterizar, discutir y documentar la producción sobre el tema. La selección del material se realizó en el año 2021 utilizando los términos “revolución gris”, “pelo blanco”, “pelo gris” y “poder gris”, tanto en portugués como en inglés. Se consultaron fuentes primarias y secundarias. El análisis del material recolectado indicó una tensión entre los discursos de liberación de los estándares normativos de belleza y la mediatización del movimiento como tendencia de moda, que representa y reproduce perfiles femeninos tradicionalmente venerados.Na contemporaneidade, surge e ganha visibilidade um movimento social feminino, de abrangência internacional, denominado revolução grisalha. Nele, mulheres de diversas idades estão assumindo os cabelos brancos e grisalhos. O objetivo da pesquisa foi realizar uma revisão narrativa, a fim de caracterizar, discutir e documentar a produção a respeito da temática. A seleção do material foi feita no ano de 2021 utilizando-se os termos “revolução grisalha”, “cabelo branco”, “cabelo grisalho” e “poder grisalho”, tanto no português como no inglês. Foram consultadas fontes primárias e secundárias.
