Resumo: This article analyzes the topology of investment banks in the Brazilian territory based on the relationship between the dimension of totality – represented by financialization – and the particularity, expressed by the Brazilian socio-spatial formation. While financialization amplifies globally-reaching processes such as neoregulation, liberalization, and the development of information techniques (processes that increase the prominence of investment banks in the current historical period), socio-spatial formation is the instance where such processes effectively materialize, according to the modulations imposed by the specificities of the material/technical base and normative contents of each national territory. In order to interpret these vectors of financialization in the Brazilian territory, we have developed a periodization based on key variables linked to the action of investment banks over more than fifty years in Brazil. It was possible to identify that the period from 1966 to 1988 is characterized by a more “regionalized” action of a greater number of investment banks in the territory, while the period from 1988 to 2020 marks the highest incidence of liberalization and neoregulation processes that shape a verticalized action of the sector, based on concentration of institutions in the informational metropolis of São Paulo. The analysis proposed here results from the effort to articulate a literature review and secondary data obtained from documentary sources (especially the Central Bank of Brazil and Revista Bancária Brasileira).

The analysis proposed here results from the effort to articulate a literature review and secondary data obtained from documentary sources (especially the Central Bank of Brazil and Revista Bancária Brasileira).
