Resumo: | This work presents, in the first part, two experiences of Portuguese language teaching in Timor-Leste. Separated by time, each case shows different problems and different situations from the social, cultural, and historical necessities of the Portuguese language in Timor-Leste. In the second part, there is a reflection on the formation of teachers in East Timor and, mainly, a defence of the need to know the local particularities from field research and accounts of the experiences of professionals working in international cooperation projects in order to adequately plan formative teaching and encourage a more effective language education policy. |
