Resumo: This article points to black dances as a fertile proposal for the development of the artist's corporeity, especially for the dance teaching. It refers to some styles of black dances created and recreated in Brazilian territory, especially the scenic dance, created by Mercedes Baptista and the influence of its aesthetics that gave rise to the Raízes do Movimento Laboratory.
