Resumo: This article discusses some artistic practices developed in the Laboratório Objetos Performáticos de Teatro de Animação da Escola de Belas Artes da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. The research of this Laboratory is dedicated to the practice of Puppets Theatre in unconventional spaces. In this way, we discuss two performances created from the legends of Ananse (an important character of Ashanti mythology, of Ghana) and performed in public spaces of the city of Rio de Janeiro. These performances are called Exercise 1 and Exercise 3. They work on a liminal area where several arts intersect, as the Puppets Theatre, the Performance Art, Visual Arts and Video and where the social Activism and the spirituality are considered as part of artistic activity. The concept of Liminality runs by analysis of those performances. This concept is understood as a psychological and metaphysical state where a person is located in a boundary zone, with the awareness to be between two existential levels. In this sense, this concept is essential to understand the performance arts.

Neste sentido, abordaremos as performances Exercícios 1 e Exercício 3, ambas baseadas nas lendas de Ananse – personagem da mitologia axânti, de Gana, na África – e realizadas em espaços públicos da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. As performances aqui descritas operam numa região liminar, onde dialogam teatro de formas animadas, performance, artes visuais, vídeo, ativismo social e a relação entre atividade artística e espiritualidade. Desta forma, o conceito de Liminaridade, compreendido como um estado psicológico e metafísico onde um sujeito situa-se numa zona limite, tendo consciência de estar entre dois níveis existenciais, perpassa as reflexões sobre tais performances.
