Health education in tuberculosis control: the perspective of Family Health strategy professionals

Resumo: | ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to analyze health education actions developed by Family Health strategy teams for tuberculosis control. Seven focal groups were performed, with the participation of 37 professionals. The study was developed in a city of the state of Paraíba, considered a priority for the National Tuberculosis Control Program. The data were analyzed through thematic content analysis, using Paulo Freire’s Liberatory Education as the theoretical framework. It was found that the educational actions were timely and not much expressive in the teams’ working process, and mostly guided by the traditional education model. The concepts of education relate with transmitting information and move away from a dialogic approach, increasing autonomy and the ability of making a critical-analysis of the health-disease-care process. It was identified there was poor advancement in TB control, in the field of health education, due to the limited qualified human resources and frail social mobilization. Fueron organizados siete grupos focales, participando 37 profesionales. Estudio realizado en municipio de Paraíba, considerado prioritario para el Programa Nacional de Control de la Tuberculosis. Se utilizó análisis de contenido, modalidad temática con fundamentación teórica en referencial freireano de Educación Libertadora para análisis de los datos. Se constató que las acciones educativas fueron puntuales y poco expresivas del proceso de trabajo de los equipos, orientándose principalmente por el modelo educativo tradicional. Las concepciones de educación se relacionaron a la transmisión de autonomía y capacidad crítico-analítica del proceso salud-enfermedad-cuidado. Se identificó escaso avance en el control de la TB en el campo de la educación en salud, en virtud de la limitación de recursos humanos calificados y frágil movilización social. Foram realizados sete grupos focais, com participação de 37 profissionais. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em município paraibano, considerado prioritário para o Programa Nacional de Controle da Tuberculose. Utilizou-se para análise dos dados a técnica da análise de conteúdo, modalidade temática, com fundamentação teórica no referencial freiriano da Educação Libertadora. Verificou-se que as ações educativas foram pontuais e pouco expressivas no processo de trabalho das equipes, sendo predominantemente norteadas pelo modelo de educação tradicional. As concepções de educação relacionam-se à transmissão de informações e distanciam-se de uma abordagem dialógica, com ganhos de autonomia e capacidade crítico-analítica do processo saúde-doença-cuidado. Identificou-se pouco avanço no controle da TB, no campo da educação em saúde, em razão da limitação de recursos humanos qualificados e frágil mobilização social.
