Undergraduate education and the theoretical-practical contents of occupational health

Resumo: This qualitative study was performed with the objective to identify theoretical-practical contents related to Occupational Health taught in the undergraduate nursing course at Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro and discuss the focus, contents and teaching strategies employed to develop the students’ competencies and skills related to this field of knowledge. Data were collected using a form to interview 29 students enrolled in the 7th semester, after which a documental analysis was performed. Content thematic analysis was used. The study found that the students understand the Occupational Health content they are taught, which comprises several components developed within the institution. However, the theory/practice relationship was unclear, incipient and weak. This result suggests it is necessary to study this issue further, including the perspective of the faculty, for the purpose of strengthening the professional education and training of nurses in terms of the knowledge related to Health and Work. Descriptors: Education, Nursing; Education, Nursing, Baccalaureate; Occupational Health; Curriculum.Investigación cualitativa cuyos objetivos fueron identificar contenidos teórico-prácticos relacionados a la Salud del Trabajador, brindados en el curso de grado en enfermería de la Universidad del Estado de Rio de Janeiro y discutir enfoque, contenidos, estrategias pedagógicas implementadas por los docentes para desarrollo de competencias y habilidades relativas al área en los estudiantes. Para recolección fueron entrevistados 27 alumnos del 7° período, utilizándose un formulario, y se efectuó análisis documental. Se utilizó análisis temático como procedimiento analítico. El estudio reveló comprensión del alumnado sobre enseñanza referida a contenidos de Salud del Trabajador, los cuales expresaron una diversidad de contenidos desarrollados por la institución. Mientras tanto, la relación teoría-práctica se mostró poco clara, incipiente y frágil. Tal resultado sugiere necesidad de profundización de la problemática, incorporando la perspectiva del docente, apuntando a fortalecer la formación profesional del enfermero en lo referente a conocimientos concernientes a Salud y Trabajo. Descriptores: Educación en Enfermería; Bachillerato en Enfermería; Salud Laboral; Curriculum.Pesquisa qualitativa cujos objetivos foram identificar conteúdos teórico-práticos relacionados à Saúde do Trabalhador – ministrados no curso de graduação em enfermagem da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – e discutir enfoque, conteúdos, estratégias de ensino implementadas pelos docentes para desenvolvimento de competências e habilidades dos discentes relacionados a essa área de saber. Para coleta foram entrevistados com uso de formulário 29 acadêmicos do 7º período, e realizou-se análise documental. Utilizou-se análise temática do conteúdo como procedimento analítico. O estudo revelou entendimento dos discentes acerca do ensino referente aos conteúdos da Saúde do Trabalhador, os quais apontaram para uma diversidade de conteúdos desenvolvidos pela instituição. No entanto, a relação teoria/prática mostrou-se pouco clara, incipiente e fragilizada. Esse resultado sugere necessidade de aprofundamento da problemática, com incorporação da perspectiva do docente, no intuito de fortalecer formação do profissional enfermeiro no que se refere aos saberes relacionados à Saúde e Trabalho.
