New Technologies and New Ways of Organizing the Work of the Teacher at Sports Centers

Resumo: Based on a case study undertaken in a large gym in the city of Goiânia, Brazil, I present this paper that aims at understanding how technological changes in gyms have infl uenced the organization of work in such spaces. This research was developed in the first quarter of 2004. Semi-structured interviews with teachers from the investigated gym were done for data collection. The chosen gym, herein renamed as Academia X, was the one that had the most advanced technology available for this business sector in the city of Goiânia. The achieved results may point to future trends for the other gyms. This is only possible because lesser developed gyms tend to match their more developed counterparts. La investigación fue desarrollada en el primer semestre de 2004. Para adquirir datos fueron realizadas entrevistas semi-estructuradas con profesores de la academia investigada. La academia elegida, cuyo nombre fi cticio será Academia X, fue la que representó lo que hay de más avanzado en este ramo de actividad en Goiânia. De esta forma, podrán ser indicadas algunas tendencias para las demás academias de acuerdo con los resultados obtenidos. Ello sólo es posible porque la tendencia de las academias menos desarrolladas es de seguir las más desarrolladas. A academia escolhida, cujo nome fictício será Academia X, foi a que representa o que há e mais avançado nesse ramo de atividade em Goiânia. Assim, poderão ser apontadas algumas tendências para as demais academias de acordo com os resultados obtidos. Isso só é possível porque a tendência das academias menos desenvolvidas é acompanhar as mais desenvolvidas.
