Resumo: Urban forests comprise medium and large vegetation cover in urban areas. Planting native trees on sidewalks is a viable alternative to reduce the damage caused by disordered urbanization. Hydrogel can be used to increase the success of transplanting seedlings in the urban environment. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the efficiency of the use of hydrogel in Schinus terebinthifolia seedlings, after transplanting them in a simulation of urban road afforestation. To achieve this, Schinus terebinthifolia seedlings were cultivated until they reached the standard height for urban afforestation. These plants were transplanted into pots with 12 liters of commercial substrate and different hydrogel quantities, thus simulating a sidewalk transplant. The amounts of commercial FORTH®️ hydrogel applied were 0.75; 1.5; 3.0; 6.0 grams / liter, and they were also conducted with two procedures: a control treatment without irrigation and without addition of polymer and a control with daily irrigation and without addition of polymer. The evaluation took place for 14 days and the analyzed parameters were the soil temperature and humidity, by using sensors, the relative water content (CRA), electrolyte leakage, chlorophyll content and biochemical evaluations. The temperatures observed in the environment did not show significant differences in maximum and minimum. The environment’s humidity had an average of 62% and the soil’s humidity varied according to the adjustments, having smaller variations in the adjustments with higher amounts of hydrogel. The CRA showed an average higher than 80%. ETR values varied between treatments. In the different adjustments, the plants showed differences related to biochemistry: proline, peroxide and lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes. It was possible to conclude that S. terebinthifolia may be a good choice for urban afforestation, due to the tolerance showed after transplanting. In addition, the use of hydrogel is an alternative to improve the efficiency of transplanting seedlings to the urban environment.

O CRA apresentou média superior a 80%.
