The beauty of the figured obese body: from invisibility to the oblique framing

Resumo: | The appearance of the obese body in cinema reflects the historical difficulty of fitting it into culture in general. To discuss the presence of the obese body in different figurative planes, we turn to the analysis of Giorgio Agamben on reciprocity in the use of bodies, Marie-José Mondizan on ethics in contemporary media and Deleuze on film aesthetics. From the adaptations of two novels – Essay on blindness, by José Saramago, and the homonymous film by Fernando Meirelles; Chronicle of the murdered house, by Lúcio Cardoso, and the film The murdered house, by César Saraceni – we will reach the prominence of the obese body in the film Out of Rosenheim [Bagdad Café], to finally experience the vigor of its beauty. |

La aparición del cuerpo obeso en el cine refleja la dificultad histórica de encajarlo en la cultura en general. Para discutir la presencia del cuerpo obeso en diferentes planos figurativos, nos dirigimos al análisis de Giorgio Agamben sobre la reciprocidad en el uso de los cuerpos, Marie-José Mondizan sobre la ética en los medios contemporáneos y Deleuze sobre la estética cinematográfica. De las adaptaciones de dos novelas – Ensayo sobre la ceguera, de José Saramago, y la película homónima de Fernando Meirelles; Crónica de la casa asesinada, de Lúcio Cardoso, y la película La casa asesinada, de César Saraceni – alcanzaremos el protagonismo del cuerpo obeso en la película Fuera de Rosenheim[Bagdad Café], para finalmente experimentar el vigor de su belleza. A aparição do corpo obeso no cinema repercute a histórica dificuldade de seu enquadramento na cultura em geral. Para discutirmos a presença do corpo obeso em distintos planos de figuração, recorremos às análises de Giorgio Agamben sobre a reciprocidade no uso dos corpos, Marie-José Mondizan quanto à ética na mídia contemporânea e Deleuze sobre a estética fílmica. Das adaptações de dois romances – Ensaio sobre a cegueira, de José Saramago, e o filme homônimo de Fernando Meirelles; Crônica da casa assassinada, de Lúcio Cardoso, e o filme A casa assassinada, de César Saraceni – chegaremos ao protagonismo do corpo obeso no filme Out of Rosenheim [Bagdad Café], para, enfim, experimentarmos o vigor da sua beleza.
