Resumo: | This research aims to study the Public Policy that developed in the period of the First Brazilian Republic (1889-1930) in relation to leprosy, analyze and understand the relevance of the medical discourse about the disease and patients and its political-ideological character the construction of the Republic. The methodology was used bibliographical research, survey of documentary sources and local consultation in the Public Library of Paraná, in the Rare Books section of the PUC-PR and Sanitary Dermatology Hospital of Paraná. As theoretical foundation were used authors History and Sociology area as Cabral, Castro, Corbain, Cunha, among others. The results show that the disease has not been among the priorities set by the federal government until the first decade of the twentieth century, when it became a health problem of greater relevance. Thus, public authorities and doctors constructed a coherent discourse on the need to isolate patients and invested in medical and scientific nature campaigns, culminating with the predominance of sanitarism-campaigner until the early 60s. |

Thus, public authorities and doctors constructed a coherent discourse on the need to isolate patients and invested in medical and scientific nature campaigns, culminating with the predominance of sanitarism-campaigner until the early 60s.A presente pesquisa objetiva estudar as Políticas Públicas que se desenvolveram no período da Primeira República brasileira (1889-1930) em relação à lepra, analisar e compreender a relevância do discurso médico sobre a doença e os doentes e seu caráter político-ideológico na construção da República. Como metodologia se utilizou a pesquisa bibliográfica, levantamento de fontes documentais e consulta local na Biblioteca Pública do Paraná, no setor de Obras Raras da PUC-PR e ao Hospital de Dermatologia Sanitária do Paraná. Como fundamentação teórica foram utilizados autores da área de História e Sociologia como Cabral, Castro, Corbain, Cunha, entre outros. Os resultados obtidos demonstram que a doença não esteve entre as prioridades estabelecidas pelo governo federal até a primeira década do século XX, quando se converteu em um problema sanitário de maior relevância.
