Resumo: This paper analyzes the literary representation of food in the short story “Sabá” by Mêndele Mocher Seforim. The aim is to establish the relationships between tradition-modernity, sacred-profane, and work-celebration around the Shabbat table. The analyzes is highlights elements in the narrative, such as character, time, and space. It examines contrasts and tensions surrounding food and the pleasure of eating, engaging with literary and rabbinic traditions.
