REGULATION AND "UBERIZATION" OF SEXUAL WORK IN BRAZIL: INDIRECTLY REMUNERED SEXUAL WORK

Resumo: This article deals with changes in sex work implemented by technology and public regulatory policy in Brazil. The study has as its object of analysis the activity of sex workers using applications and aims to describe how this tool combined with regulation (with abolitionist tendency) modify the way of hiring sex workers and create new modalities of sex work, besides analyzing what advantages they brought to these professionals. The data discussed in this study were produced through ethnography in two nightclubs in Curitiba, and semi-structured interviews with sex workers, application users. The results show that the regulation favors sex workers from the poorest sections of the population, by relieving them of the harassment of public agents, but it promotes “uberization” by authorizing prostitution in the autonomous form, never with a formal license.

El estudio tiene como objeto de análisis la actividad de las trabajadoras sexuales que utilizan aplicaciones y tiene como objetivo describir cómo esta herramienta combinada con la regulación (con tendencia abolicionista) modifica la forma de contratar trabajadoras sexuales y crea nuevas modalidades de trabajo sexual, además de analizar qué ventajas aportaron a estos profesionales. Los datos discutidos en este estudio fueron producidos a través de etnografía en dos clubes nocturnos en Curitiba, y entrevistas semiestructuradas con trabajadoras sexuales, usuarios de aplicaciones. Los resultados muestran que la regulación favorece a las trabajadoras sexuales de los sectores más pobres de la población, aliviando el acoso de los agentes públicos, pero promueve la "uberización" al autorizar la prostitución en forma autónoma, nunca con una licencia formal.O presente artigo trata de mudanças no trabalho sexual implementadas pela tecnologia e pela política pública de regulação no Brasil. O estudo tem por objeto de análise a atividade de profissionais do sexo com o uso de aplicativos e por objetivos descrever como essa ferramenta aliada à regulação (com tendência abolicionista) modificam a forma de contratação de profissionais do sexo e criam novas modalidades de trabalho sexual, além de analisar que vantagens trouxeram a esses profissionais. Os dados discutidos nesse estudo foram produzidos através de etnografia em duas boates de Curitiba, e de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com profissionais do sexo, usuários de aplicativos.
