ESSAY ON LOOK – CINEMA, PHOTOGRAPHY AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF URBAN FICTIONS

Resumo: With practical and theoretical support of Wim Wenders' Tokyo-Ga and the photographic work Em busca de Elliott Erwitt, developed by me in the master project by PPGAV - UFRGS, I analyze the force of the images to construct a certain look about the city. Photography and cinema would play an important role in the construction of an urban imaginary, interfering with our desires to see and relate socially. Thinkers such as Susan Sontag and Marc Augé aimed their reflections on the relationship between the involvement and the production of images, perceiving ethics of social conduct in what refers, especially, to photography. This production of images would directly interfere in the real, proposing a cut of the same through the look, what François Soulages would refer like an exercise of the fiction.

La fotografía y el cine tendrían un papel importante en la construcción de un imaginario urbano, interfiriendo en nuestros deseos de ver y de relacionarse socialmente. Los pensadores como Susan Sontag y Marc Augé detuvieron sus reflexiones en la relación existente entre el envolvimiento y la producción de imágenes, percibiendo éticas de conducta social en lo que se refiere, principalmente, al fotografiar. Esta producción de imágenes interferiría directamente en lo real, proponiendo un recorte del mismo a través de la mirada, lo que François Soulages se referiría como un ejercicio de la ficción.Com apoio prático e teórico do filme Tokyo-Ga, de Wim Wenders, e do trabalho fotográfico Em busca de Elliott Erwitt, desenvolvido por mim no projeto de mestrado pelo PPGAV – UFRGS, analiso a força das imagens para a construção de certo olhar sobre a cidade. A fotografia e o cinema teriam papel importante na construção de um imaginário urbano, interferindo nos nossos desejos de ver e de se relacionar socialmente. Pensadores como Susan Sontag e Marc Augé detiveram suas reflexões na relação existente entre o envolvimento e a produção de imagens, percebendo éticas de conduta social no que se refere, principalmente, ao fotografar.
